Hinged Assisted-Lift Access Covers
Manhole Covers Ireland Ltd supplies a comprehensive range of hinged assisted-lift access covers for projects requiring safe, convenient, and frequent access to underground chambers.
The range includes both flush-fitting and upstanding options to suit different site and chamber requirements. Heavy-duty torsion springs assist with opening and closing, reducing the lifting effort required and supporting safe manual-handling practices.
Covers are available for pedestrian applications and areas subject to low-speed vehicular traffic. The complete range can accommodate utility padlocks, supplied separately, to help prevent unauthorised access.
Standards and Intended Use
Products are manufactured in accordance with the relevant requirements of:
- BS EN 124-1 – Gully tops and manhole tops for vehicular and pedestrian areas: definitions, classification, general design principles and performance requirements.
- BS 9124 – Specification for steel and aluminium access cover systems with a clear opening greater than 1 metre.
Fabricated access covers must not be installed on highways or within the carriageway of any road.
They are suitable for areas used by all types of road vehicles where speeds do not exceed 20 mph and traffic intensity is low. Typical applications include pedestrian streets, forecourts, hard shoulders, and parking areas.
The selection of the appropriate product, loading, size and security rating remains the responsibility of the Project Engineer.
Defender Range
The Defender is a flush-fitting assisted-lift access cover incorporating the Stamp-Lock locking system. It is available from a minimum clear opening of 450 × 450 mm and can be manufactured to suit specific chamber dimensions.
Suitable for a wide variety of applications, the Defender can achieve security ratings of LPS 1175 SR3/C5 or SR4/D10 when fitted with the appropriate Glidelock mechanism.

Prolift Range
The Prolift is a flush-fitting assisted-lift cover incorporating the Stamp-Lock locking system. It is available in sizes ranging from 450 × 450 mm up to 3,000 × 2,000 mm clear opening.
The Prolift range is suitable for applications requiring safe and frequent access where a sealed cover is not required.

Multi-Guard Range
The Multi-Guard range is primarily designed for large or oversized chambers. Its modular construction allows extensive chamber lengths to be accommodated without a fixed maximum length.
A combination of hinged and lift-off cover sections provides flexible access across chambers of varying sizes. When combined with the Stamp-Lock locking system, the range can achieve an LPS 1175 SR3 security rating.
The range includes the Multi-Guard 3 and Multi-Guard V3 hinged assisted-lift access covers.

Upstand Range
Upstanding access covers are available from a minimum clear opening of 450 × 450 mm and can be manufactured to suit individual chamber dimensions.
The frame is designed so that the grid remains within the frame and does not project into the chamber opening. This makes it suitable for applications where an upstanding unit is acceptable.

Sentry Range
The Sentry range is available with LPS 1175 Issue 8 C5 or D10 security ratings. It is particularly suitable for potable-water applications where security, sealing and controlled ventilation are required.
The system incorporates a moated frame and inner cover fitted with a WRAS-approved sealing strip to help prevent the ingress of contaminated liquids.
